A loss of heat, pressure or hot-water capacity is not a diagnosis by itself. Useful evidence includes whether the problem affects heating, hot water or both; whether it is constant or intermittent; and whether a display, gauge, discharge pipe or nearby component shows a change.
Signs replacement is justified
- The cylinder body leaks or is badly corroded. Dry the area first, then check it again under normal operating conditions. The timing and first point of fresh moisture are more useful than the final spread of the stain.
- Breakdowns repeat and major parts are obsolete. Compare the observation with the appliance manual and the behaviour of the rest of the system. Do not remove covers or alter safety controls to investigate further.
