- Replace a shower hose or head using its supplied washers. Look along the full length and at both connections. Bulging, abrasion, rust staining or a hose stretched tight behind an appliance justifies replacement before it bursts.
- Locate and label stopcocks and service valves. Operate it gently and confirm that flow actually stops; a seized or passing valve should be repaired under controlled conditions, not forced during an emergency.
